HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) 3D printer filament is our popular, tried and tested soluble/dissolvable thermoplastic support material. This material is designed to be used as a support or infill material in conjunction with our ABS filaments, but can also be used on it’s own as a normal Polystyrene 3D printing material.
Our HIPS filament formula is fully degradable and easily dissolves in a D-Limonene solution. Depending on the size/geometry of your print, the material will dissolve in approximately 8 to 24 hours when fully submerged in a D-Limonene bath.
HIPS is ideal for printing in conjunction with ABS because it has a similar strength and stiffness profile to ABS which means they complement each other well. It also helps that HIPS and ABS need to be printed around the same temperature.
HIPS 3D printer filament has similar properties to ABS because it is relatively strong can be easily sanded. But unlike ABS, HIPS has less potential for warping while printing and is an ideal material for painting, making it popular for use with costumes, models, and miniature figurines.
Filament is vacuum sealed in a resealable zip lock bag with a desiccant pack.
